Bohemian Dresses

Bohemian dresses are typically loose, flowy-looking and sometimes drapey with vintage or ethnic prints such as paisley or Ikat. They range from tunic to maxi styles, strapless to kimono dresses – and they’re great for creating a pretty but relaxed fashion statement!

I just love how a bohemian-inspired dress can make any bohonista look oh-so pretty and feminine. You can find various dress styles that can help define your personal style or a fashion look you’re craving to wear. Below you’ll find fashion advice and styling tips on how to style a boho-inspired dress:`

How to Wear a Bohemian Dress

Who Do You Want to be Today?

You can find bohemian dresses in various styles that can create different boho fashion looks – from folkloric to a high-glam outfit.

Depending on the details, shape and style of the dress – you can decide if you want to look ethereal, sweet, rugged or glamorous.

Examples are:

  • Peasant girl – look for dresses lace and embroidery details. Complete the look with a braided hippie headband.
  • Boho-luxe – maxi dresses with a slight sheen create a luxurious look. Finish the look with a clutch purse and a pair of high heel pumps.
  • Rugged – think slouch boots with a cotton tunic dress.

My favorite boho dress look is the Peasant girl – topped with a wavy hairstyle 🙂

Create a Juxtaposition

Update and polish the look by mixing and matching boho with contemporary. So I suggest you to combine the dress with something modern and typical you.

With me that’s wearing classy accessories and garments – so I would personally pair a boho dress with a blazer and probably a pearl ring.

Or do a trendy look with a leather jacket and platform pumps. Or infuse some edge with studs and chain.. it’s up to you!

However, keep in mind that if you want to achieve a boho-chic look you need to maintain a balanced outfit with the right amount of details and basics.

Pair it With Leggings

Yeah, I know that pairing short bohemian dresses with leggings can appear a bit juvenile, but it’s much better than wearing heavy jeans!

It’s all in how you wear it – so boost the chic factor by throwing in a pair of heels (pumps or boots) and a stylish handbag, and top it off with knit cardigan if it gets chilly outside. This is a great look for Fall & Winter.

How about pairing a tunic dress with faux leather leggings?

Turn a basic, plain dress in to bohemian style outfit

You can easily turn a basic, plain black dress in to boho-chic outfit. The versatility of a plain dress gives room for “bohemianizing” it with boho-inspired jewelry, print scarves and other hippie-looking accessories. Bohemian style is all about the details. Check out my boho jewelry section.

Tip:

Update the look of a baggy boho-vintage dress with a simple belt wrapped around your waist.
