"Your Dominant Characteristic in the Seasonal Color Analysis - Absence of Warmth"
If your dominant characteristic Cool and Ashy it means that there is an absence of warmth in your hair, eyes and skin tone. So you can have dark skin or light skin and still belong to this group as long as your coloring appears ashy along with blue and pink undertones. However you may get a warm overtone when you tan but your natural coloring in overall lacks warmth to it.
Here is an example of a Cool (Kate Middleton) and Warm (Lindsay Lohan), and you can see that they are quite the contrast from each other:

Typical Characteristics of a Cool Coloring
These are your dominant characteristics that set you apart from the rest in the seasonal color analysis:
- Hair color ranges from bluish-black and medium to deep ash brown; silver-blonde, silver to salt & pepper. If you’re in your aging years, you’ll notice that the rich dark hair you used to have when you were younger has lost a bit of its color, making it appear soft or somewhat washed out.
- Eye color varies from a soft dark brown (you were probably a Deep Winter or Autumn when you were younger), charcoal gray, gray and grayish blue. The quality of your eyes have cooled down and are not so clear and vivid as a Clear person.
- Skin color is either beige, ashy black, gray beige, neutral beige or rose beige. It has some ashen quality to it.
Aging and Gray Hair are Signs of Cool
Many Deep Autumns and Deep Winters slowly turn into a Cool as they age, because their coloring grays and softens.

Cool Wearing Warm Colors?
Cool Winters are able to color their hair golden-brown (especially Deep Winters because they overlap with Deep Autumns) without hurting their look. However, they need to have a little bit of a tan (see Kate Middleton) to adjust to the golden-brown hair and avoid looking sick.

Below you can see Kate Middleton and her ‘true coloring’ resurfacing from the roots and the lack of tan and warmth on her skin. The golden brown hair color doesn’t harmonize that well with her cool complexion.

Your Best Colors
You look divine in a wide range of grays as well as cool purples, blues and reds. Truly warm colors such as orange and yellow will wash you out.
However, if you have very vivid hair color such as dark brown to black hair or silver-blonde, silver or salt & pepper hair, you’ll be able to wear icy colors such as icy blue and icy yellow perfectly. Your palette resembles a Clear Winter, but yours is less bright because of your softer coloring.
Do You Suit Dark or Medium Colors Best?
To determine if you’re a Cool Winter or Cool Summer, you need to figure out if you suit medium or dark colors – which is a different approach to the “warm or cool”-test, because you already know that you’re a cool!
The difference between the two is that Cool Summers are softer and look best in lighter colors, best described as a delicate Winter who flows into Summer. While a Winter has a more stronger coloring and need deeper colors.
Here’s an example of a Dark (Lisa Vanderpump) and Medium Cool (Kate Middleton):
Cool, darker colors = Cool Winter | Cool, medium colors = Cool Summer |
